Basketball – A sport that I love

I have always wanted to take part in a team sport where teammates would cheer for each other, motivate each other, depend on each other. Since badminton is not considered a team sport, the next resort will be the sport I’m second best at – basketball.

Before that, never have I imagined that I would actually have the chance to play in real basketball matches at all.

Little did I know that the decision to write my name on the paper to recruit new members for the 4th Residential College basketball team will make my dreams come true.

Running on the court, defending opponents, aiming and shooting, these on court actions became an addiction for me, and I crave for more every year.

But sadly, everything has to come to an end. Good days have come and gone. But the memories of the years I was in the 4th basketball team will always be etched in my brain.

2008/2009 - First year

Seniors were looking and asking around for people to join the college girls’ basketball team.

As a freshman eager to join activities, I registered myself as part of the team, both as a hobby and wanting to test my skills.

The team that year consists of more seniors than juniors.

Practice after practice, we learnt how to defend, plans to attack, helping your teammates, all these serve as new information to me, and it certainly was rather difficult to digest.

My role in the team that year was just as a substitute point guard, following seniors’ instructions and advice just like every other junior would do.

I was glad to be in that role, learning everything I could and enjoying the game.

The seniors were very helpful, guiding us along and telling us our mistakes.

It was an enjoyable year in the team.

However, in the competition, we fought but we lost. Coach was rather frustrated with our performance I think. But it certainly added to my experience and prepared me for a more important role the next year.

2009/2010 – Second year

Responsibilities come with experience.

As most seniors have graduated or decided not to play for the team anymore, me and Sher Lynn had to take up the responsibility to search for talents and gather a new team for the new term.

As a senior, my role in the team has completely reversed compared to the first year.

From being a follower, I had to learn to lead as a captain and motivate the team.

This made me change to a more proactive role by initiating discussions, giving words of encouragement, and leading practices.

I certainly learnt and enjoyed a lot during this stint.

And thanks a lot to my teammates as well. You girls gave me plenty of cooperation and help in managing the team.

Not forgetting Sher Lynn, who managed the team and practice sessions very well too. Thanks!

Also a very big thank you to Chiu Hong and Yee Yuan for bringing along your talent and skills into the team. Without the both of you, our team will have been dead meat to the other teams.

This year, we managed to go one step further into the quarterfinals.

Even though it was the luck of the draw, I still consider it an achievement.

An achievement in the sense that the team learnt something, enjoyed the practice sessions, scored some baskets, and had a good time!

2010/2011 - Third year

Letting go is part and parcel of life.

Being a final year senior, the baton has to be passed on to the younger ones.

After much persuasion and forcing, Chiu Hong finally accepted the position as team manager and captain.

I have to give maximum credit to her for being the most efficient, effective, and responsible manager ever!

Her enthusiasm for the team is unbelievable and she makes sure she does her job to the very best. I completely salute her for that.

Consisting of several talented juniors and seniors in the team, I would say that the team this year can certainly put up a fight to other colleges instead of losing meekly.

It was a pity that we didn't take the opportunity to play well in the first game, or else we would have gotten further in the tournament.

We only have ourselves to blame. That will be one regret that I have this year.

But winning and losing is part of the game.

As long as we learnt from our mistakes and try harder the next time, then we may be able to achieve further.

Sadly, there will be no next time for me.

Hopefully the younger ones will continue to take up the responsibility of the team and not let it drop out of sight.

If the heavy responsibilities and time consuming practices are holding you back from rejoining the team next year, think back about the happy, enjoyable and exciting moments you shared on court with your teammates, and let that feeling guide you on whether your heart really wants to rejoin the team. And if you do, do not hesitate, just go for it.

Remember to enjoy from your heart, and not be forced to.

A very big thank you to Amirah and Sher Lynn for continuing this basketball journey with me for 3 years. We certainly are old now. Haha.

Also thank you to Chiu Hong, Yee Yuan, Cindy, and Dilah for your commitment and time in rejoining the team for the second time.

Last but not least, thank you very much to the juniors, Hui Xian, Shu Min, Huay Woon, Mei Hui, and Choy Fun for your interest and commitment in joining the basketball team. Whether you were on court for long or short periods, your contributions were still very important to the team. Hopefully all of you have learnt something new from this few months of training and most importantly, enjoyed the whole thing.

Three years have come and gone very quickly.

4th college girls' basketball team will forever be an unforgettable part of my university life.

Thank you everyone for giving me this memorable experience.

I sincerely wish that 4th girl's team will only get better and better, and that the younger ones will always be there to continue the love for basketball that we all share!

Love you girls!!

first sprain of my life~~

just came back from malacca trip with my gang
had fun dere
gained weight (i think)
laughed our asses out
and even got an elephant leg!!
haha

sprained my right ankle at the A'Famosa ruins
the first ever sprained ankle of my life!
see that it's swollen compared to the left leg

and in the end
had to bandage my leg up
and ended up with an elephant leg
hope that it recovers soon
soon enough for training
I seriously don't want to abandon my team

hill top experience

was my brother's birthday today
opted for a hill top experience for his birthday
woke up at 4.30am this morning to go for hill climbing

Broga Hill, Semenyih

climbing up the hill was rather taxing
but it was nothing compared to the jungle trekking in Dusun Eco
got to experience a hill top sunrise
and snapped some beautiful photos

just before daybreak

me and my brother
blur family photo

look at the crowd
even dogs like to climb hills
picnic time~~

all in all
it was an eye-opening trip
an a very good way to exercise too
may consider bringing the basketball team here for recreational exercise

and not to forget
Happy 19th Birthday Dear Bro!!!

care free moment~~

the chat last night was really enjoyable

one night to forget about assignments and other troubles
i think it was the 1st time we ever chatted till so late in the night
3am and i wasn't even sleepy yet
it was a good way for us to get together and remind ourselves about old times
amidst all the stress and work that we all have
the few of us sitting there

enjoying each other's company

laughing at the smallest of jokes
gossiping about others

talking crap
it was rather relaxing and care-free
and also erases any misunderstandings in the past

hope to have more such get togethers in the future
not only during special occasions

but during normal days as well

and a little late wish

~happy mid-autumn festival~

random~~

boring...
just finished proficiency exam

just going along as things comes along
that's the best way

just plain tired.....

it's been a long long time
since I last updated this blog
many things have happened
projects successfully carried out
dinners attended
competitions won
sorry I didn't have the time and mood to update

there were and are stuff bothering my mind
just wanna express them here

it's not an easy job
trying to please everyone.
it takes up a lot of mental energy and emotions
there would be times
one side would be happy
but the other would feel neglected
either way
I'll be the one in the middle
handling the awkward situations
putting on a chatty face
pretending as if nothing has happened.

the problem has to be with me
it happened before in school
and its happening again now
the only difference
is that now I have someone whom I can talk to
and to face the problem with
which I am very thankful for

but now I'm getting tired
tired of trying
tired of pleasing everyone except myself
tired of putting on a face that doesn't belong to me

now
I just want to be my happy-go-lucky self again
be happy doing whatever I want
be happy for my own reasons
be happy around the people I care about
can anyone help me do that?

I'm back~~

sorry for neglecting this blog...
but i've seriously been too busy for the past few weeks...
dint have the time and mood to blog...
but now i'm back!!
still don't have the blogging mood...
but i guess after so long i have to write a word or two here...

what have i been busy with for the past few weeks?
let me see...
i stopped blogging since last december...
had to ganti balik everything that happened....
so i'll start with new year's eve!!

New Year's Eve -- 31/12/08
on the last day of 2008,

our POSUM gang initially had a few plans to welcome the new year...
3 absurd plans...

plan 1...which was the most normal
plan...
going up to genting(again) to watch fireworks and enjoy the cool air...
this plan wasn't too warmly accepted by some...so plan canceled...

plan 2...this is where things start to get crazy...
jumping into tasik bestari at the stroke of midnight...
sher lynn's idea...impossible right?

plan 3...another crazy one...
run naked around 4th basketball court...
susan's weirdo idea...she only suggested it for herself i think...haha...

3 unworkable plans....
had to resolve to spending new year's eve in UM...
simple plan...
me, udang, sher lynn and voon went to the 2008 sign opposite DTC to see it change to 2009 at 12am...
what a way to welcome new year!!
the UM technicians were so efficient...
at 12am, they were already busy dismantling the "8" sign and replacing it with "9"...
to my surprise, many other students also spent their new year's eve there...
just a simple night but still enjoyable for me...
as long as i spend it with dear friends, doing whatever wherever whenever is still enjoyable!!

1st photo of 2009!!!!

Malaysia Boleh!!!

you thought this was some weird post about malaysia boleh?
no you're wrong...
malaysia certainly boleh last sunday as our badminton players achieved history!!

BWF Super Series Masters Finals
Likas Sports Complex,
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

this is the first time ever that such an event is being held...
where only the top 8 players in the world are invited to participate...
it offers lucrative prize money and everyone dreams of playing in it...
everyone except weird china players...

don't wanna talk about them...

on sunday...
malaysia had representatives in 3 finals!!
if they could all get it right, what a glorious day it would be for the country!!

and they did exactly what was expected of them...
leading the act was world number one men's singles player Datuk Lee Chong Wei...
he basically demolished Peter Gade of Denmark...
in the 1st set he even led 12-0!!

he was determined to win his first title as top player in the world and he never let his fans down...
way to go datuk!!!

next up was the ever inconsistent pair of Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong...
i'm watching their match as i'm writing this now...
clearly they have much more understanding of each other now compared to last time...
at least they don't complain and blame each other for their mistakes...
and TBH has rediscovered his killer smashes!!!
they looked relaxed throughout the match and even smiled when they made mistakes...
this no pressure play is what made them win the title...
and tbh's post match interview was so funny...
as he doesn't really know how to speak English,
all the interview questions were directed at kkk...
but he couldn't avoid answering at least one...
so when asked how did he feel after winning,
he said " i feel very happy because this is our 1st champion this year"...haha...
you must be feeling weird as to what is so funny...
but his way of talking and how he looked so shy when speaking was real funny and kinda cute...
that's why i like him...haha...
anyway,
hope that this win will spark a comeback for them as malaysia's diamond pair...
looking forward to much more greater things from them next year...
don't let us down anymore...

last to go on court was our women's doubles Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty..
the crowd was already bursting with pride after 2 wins but chin-wong pampered them with another title for malaysia!!!
they fought gallantly against the indonesians and earned themselves USD42,000!!!
a big amount of money added to their many runner-up winnings in the past few months...
no wonder pei tty said that she'll have more money to spend during CNY...haha...
well done!!

in the end,
it was a really proud day for malaysia as we have never been so successful in a tournament before...
bravo to all the winners!!!
hope that 2009 will be an even better year and...

MALAYSIA BOLEH!!!

food glorious food~~

went to hang out with my old friends aka my gang last saturday...
started our journey at 5.30pm...
was awfully tired and sleepy...
i drove the whole day la wei...

after fetching udang and voon to ktm at 1pm,
i had to go through the same road again to reach our makan place at night...
never mind...
at last we reached the bbq+steamboat restaurant!!!
there weren't many people as we were early...
quickly went in and started eating!!

the restaurant~~

oops..forgot to introduce the restaurant...
it's situated in seri kembangan...
rm21.80 per person and eat all you can!!
there are loads and loads of food...
seafood, meat, many types of steamboat ingredients, vege, ice cream, fruits...
who can resist food??
we started cooking as soon as we got all our food...
or else gastric juice will start oozing out...haha...i'm being lame...

that's how we cook~~

crab is on the menu~~

after rounds and rounds of eating and cooking...
we finally surrendered...
then we started another session...photo session!!
try to squeeze 8 heads into the camera screen...
and this is what we got..the best one that we could take...

our faces aren't that big after all...haha...

with pui kuan the eldest~~

hsiao wei and poh yeng...

zi wei and doctor in the making, ngan shan

hsiao wei with conning~~

all of us~~

after all the photo taking and chit chatting,
it's time to go home sweet home...
guess i wasn't in the mood to socialize anymore...
i was really tired and there's something bothering my mind...
but all in all the dinner was a good gathering for our gang before class starts again...
LOVE you girls so much!!!

Genting trip 2-4 Dec 08 continued~~

Day 2~~
seriously deprived of sleep the previous night...
we woke up around 9.30am...took turns to wash up...
then it's time for breakfast!!

since everything is so EXPENSIVE down there...we stored food in the room like war is coming...

there's more goodies hidden in plastic bags!!

see the huge loaf of bread? that was our breakfast that morning...

9 hungry people gobbled down bread with tuna and then off we go to another day of activities~~

we rushed to the cineplex to catch the one and only Bolt screening of the day...
bought premier tickets inclusive of popcorn, drinks and a snack...
and it's showtime!!
Bolt is SO CUTE!!

every time he did something that melted people's hearts...the whole cinema went "aww....aww..."
no one could resist a cute dog~~ hehe
overall, the movie was great...different storyline from other animations... nice!!
but the popcorn was way too much...had to share and still can't finish...haha...

after the movie, we strolled to a peaceful garden with a maze and an amazing view...
what can a bunch of crazy people do there?

camwhore la of course!!

the only guy of the lot~~

i don't have hood la wei...

bungee jumping??

my dear niece~~??

like this one...fog about to cover us....

ming is seriously so not heavy!!

there's suppose to be more photos in li ee's pro camera...i mean more crazy photos...
cant wait to get them and post here...
we also did other stuff besides camwhoring la...

we walked on the stone path barefooted...
yelling and grimacing in pain along the way ( not me )...haha~~

later, me,voon, ming and udang spent the remaining of the afternoon browsing the shops in first world...

and we finally bought ming her belated birthday present--> a purse!
the itchy itchy hand and heart udang couldn't resist getting herself one also...haha...
so she got herself a brand new purse as well!

night time~~

took discounted dinner at Hou Mei...much more tastier than the "mee" yesterday...
after dinner, plans for the night were divided into 2 groups...

and it was like "adults" and "children" programme...
susan, kar hui, christine, li ee went clubbing~~

me, udang, pei yee, voon, ming attended a friendship concert and went to snow world after that~~
clubbing and snow world...completely opposites of each other!! haha...
snow world was totally cool...i mean cold...
barely 5 minutes inside and we were already freezing...
my nose could have broken off anytime i think...

as if we weren't cold enough...our insides were made to freeze as well thanks to the yogurt drink...
and not to forget...
the jackets stink!!!

after enough freezing,

we went back to the room to indulge in hot hot cup noodles and few hours of drama...
and that ends day 2~~

Day 3~~

the last day of our trip ...
checked out and started our journey home...
in the cable car,
we made final good use of li ee's pro camera and camwhored...
photos are once again not with me...will post them later...

and susan the siao po kept on shouting whenever our cable car vibrated!! haha...
bought the 2.30pm bus to KL...
while waiting...

digi yellowman~~

took just before it started to rain...

it rained like cats and dogs throughout our journey back...
and we only reached KL Sentral around 5pm??....couldn't remember...

so that ends a 3 day trip which I enjoyed immensely...
and to end it with a bang...
the dancing queens were awarded the GOLD award in the festival!!!
they really did a good job and well done!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
hope that they'll succeed in FESENI next!

seriously...

this 3 days has really been a good chance for us to mingle around and spend time with each other...
I have been looking forward to this trip so much...
because after only one week of holidays I already started to miss my lunatic gang!!
miss the POSUM ones, the normal sometimes abnormal one, the big appetite one, the camwhoring ones...
and the one who couldn't join us in genting...

but at the same time I also did not want it to come...
because after the trip it'll be a long month away till we'll be able to hang out together again...
mixed feelings then...

anyway, trip is now over...one more month of holiday...

seriously will miss all of you girls!!!
and thanks for the wonderful holiday up in the peak!!!
I simply just feel happy and relaxed being among all of you...

talking nonsense, teasing each other, camwhoring, chit chatting...
and even when doing nothing...haha...

hope that another trip will be coming up in no time~~

and LOVE all of u girls!!
